Barack Obama on education

I want to be careful not to turn this forum into a political debate.  However, I do like some of Barack Obama’s comments about moving America’s education system into the 21st century.  He recognizes that America’s future economic strengths lie in science and innovation.  It sounds like Obama wants to invest in science and technology, as well as a more comprehensive assessment framework that involves critical thinking and problem solving skills.  I place the video here simply as an information resource, but feel free to comment if you support or oppose his viewpoints.

For those of you who like to use videos to help promote the benefits of technology-infused education, I came across this one entitled A Vision of K-12 Students Today. Worth a watch, I think it is a good way to introduce a staff inservice about 21st century learning and integrated technology education.

This video is a real eye opener. It’s the perfect starter to any professional development workshop on educational technologies. I think it hits the nail right on the head and drives home some key concepts in ICT integration in schools. The statistics are amazing enough, but I think the points it makes about Digital Natives are crucial to our understanding of the students we teach. This video rocks the boat. It challenges us to reform our curricula, to question the very purpose of schooling and to think about how we can better prepare our students for the world in which they will be inheriting. Pay attention.
